All This Flow - Part I: Blog Series About Salesforce Flow Builder

Updated: Dec 13, 2020

For the longest time, I avoided using Flow - the Cloud Flow Designer was Flash-based, it was slow and cumbersome. As someone who is used to writing code (since 1996 😊), I found Apex to be a much better choice for me.

Launched recently, Flow Builder replaced its predecessor, Cloud Flow Designer (Visual Workflow). Providing a much faster alternative to streamlining flow building and maintenance and a simple, user-friendly interface, it quickly became one of DeCrew's go-to tools for Salesforce automation that is perfect for our customer's dynamic and complex business needs.

Flow Builder is a declarative interface for automation flows creation. Thanks to its numerous advantages, we, at DeCrew, use it often. This tool has helped us solve many of our customers’ business challenges, streamlining internal processes, and saving time. In this post series, we will describe Flow Builder use cases that can be valuable to any organization.

Salesforce provides four main automation tools - Workflow, Process Builder, Flow, and Apex. Flow Builder is a relatively new and extremely powerful Salesforce tool that enables the point-and-click generation of guided visual experiences and behind-the-scenes automation.

With Flow Builder, you can add advanced functionality for a behind-the-scenes process that can't be achieved with the Workflow and Process Builder.

Flow Builder doesn't require code knowledge, but even those comfortable with writing code will appreciate the speed of implementation and ease of automation maintenance that this tool provides.

Before Flow Builder, designing automation has been pretty challenging, time-consuming, and code-heavy. We often had to rely on a few tools at once - Workflow, Apex Triggers, and Process Builder. When Flow Builder came around, we have started creating automation exclusively in this tool.

In this series of posts, we will talk about various use cases in which we used Flow Builder for streamlining business processes. We hope you will find them useful!

Part II will cover our recent flow created for automation of Slack Message Destination. If you're using Slack for Salesforce you know that in order to post from Salesforce to Slack, you need a Message Destination. Standard Slack integration enables the generation of Message Destination for any Salesforce user. But what happens when your organization needs to create hundreds of Slack Message Destinations? Read this post to find out how we have automated this task with Flow Builder.
